The AGS Foundation for Health in Aging AGS Elder Care At Home

About Eldercare at Home

Families are increasingly involved in providing care for older adults who want to remain at home. If they are to give the care and support that an older person needs, they need guidance from professionals who have experience and expertise in managing problems that older adults face. To meet these challenges, advice and guidance from experienced professionals can be important and helpful. Eldercare at Home gives this guidance. It is written by a team of professionals with extensive experience in geriatric care. Eldercare at Home gives clear, practical instructions for dealing with common caregiving problems and supports a problem-solving approach to managing care at home and working cooperatively with health professionals. Three types of problems are addressed in this book: physical problems, mental/social problems, and problems in managing care.

Eldercare at Home covers the most common problems that family caregivers face. They can also serve as models for the kinds of information you need to solve other caregiving problems. All chapters are organized with five major topics:

  • Understanding the problem
  • When to get professional help
  • What you can do to help
  • Possible obstacles
  • Carrying out and adjusting the plan

The American Geriatrics Society Foundation for Health in Aging is pleased to bring you Eldercare at Home. This exciting new resource is easy to use. Illustrations are used extensively throughout the text to increase meaningfulness and to help people with low literacy skills to understand and remember instructions.
